What is TextToMeme?
A free text-to-meme generator: type one line, it picks the meme layout that fits the shape of the sentence, renders the meme on canvas in your browser, and lets you download a PNG. No sign-up, no watermark.
Is it really not AI?
Correct — and deliberately. Matching is keyword and pattern rules, published in full on the How It Works page. No language model is involved, which makes picks instant, consistent and private.
Why did my line get the classic layout?
No rule fired — your line has no versus, disaster, money, achievement, dilemma or hot-take markers. The classic top/bottom fallback treats line one as setup and line two as punchline. You can also pick any layout manually from the menu.
How does the “vs” split work?
If your first line contains “vs” or “versus”, the tool splits it there: the left side becomes the rejected top panel, the right side the approved bottom panel of the two-panel preference layout.
Can I edit the captions after auto-matching?
Yes. Auto-matching only fills the caption slots; every slot is a normal text box you can rewrite. The preview re-renders on every keystroke.
Is my text uploaded or stored?
No. The tool runs entirely in your browser; there is no account and no server receives your lines. Closing the tab clears everything.
Are these the real meme images?
No. Layouts are original canvas recreations (colour blocks, emoji, caption zones) inspired by classic formats — not the original photographs.
Can I use the memes commercially?
The layouts are offered for your use and your captions are yours. You are responsible for your captions and for not implying endorsement by any real person or brand.
What does Pro cost?
Pro is planned at $9/mo with saved history, custom characters and larger exports. It is not billed today and there is no checkout on this site; the free tool is complete.
Can I share straight to social?
The Share to X button opens a pre-filled post with your caption; download the PNG and attach it for the full meme.
